Source Protection Strategy
In 1998, the Consortium adopted a Source Water Protection Participation Strategy to guide activities that protect the quality and quantity of existing and potential drinking water sources and their watersheds.
Regional Transmission and Storage Strategy
In July 2000, the Consortium adopted a Regional Transmission and Storage Strategy (RTSS), intended to develop short- and long-term visions for regional transmission and storage, and to identify the institutional arrangements that can facilitate these visions. The RTSS uses the Regional Water Supply Plan as its foundation and identifies ways that complement and integrate water supply improvements in the region.
Climate Change
The region's water providers are interested and concerned about the impacts of climate change on water resources in the future.
Early in 2007, the Consortium sponsored a workshop on climate change to gain insight into recent research.
The workshop entailed a presentation by Dr. Thomas Pagano titled "Climate Change, Water Management, and Portland". Dr. Pagano has been an operational water supply forecaster with the US Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service since 2002.
Presentations made at the workshop included:
