Indoors

Most of us don't even think about the fact we may use indoor water sources 20 or more times a day. But just consider all the ways you use water around the home: sinks, toilets, showers, dishwashers, and more.

Unlike in the outdoors, indoor water usage is largely the same year-round. That's good news, because it means a few indoor water-saving measures can have a large cumulative effect on your household's water consumption.

Where can you conserve and re-use water indoors? Begin by considering how much water you use, versus how much you really need. That tap that runs while you brush your teeth can be shut off until you rinse. That toilet that leaks a little (the number-one indoor water waster) can easily be fixed. That rinse water flowing down your sink can be saved and used in the garden or on your houseplants.

You'd be amazed how much water you can save with just a few changes. Use this website to pick up valuable indoor conservation tips. You can also learn how much water you're using now with our water savings calculator — and find out how that compares to the average household your size.
